NetSuite vs Dynamics 365 Finance: scope the whole ERP
Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management are separately licensed applications. If you need both, the NetSuite comparison should cover that combined scope, including the integrations and implementation work.
Finance and Supply Chain Management are separate products
Microsoft licenses Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management separately, with standard and Premium editions. Its guidance describes user-based licensing, qualifying base-and-attach arrangements and minimum-purchase conditions that must be checked in the Product Terms.
Business Central has a different product and plan structure. If that is the Microsoft product you are evaluating, read the Business Central comparison.
NetSuite also needs an explicit scope: Oracle lists a core platform, optional modules and user licences, with implementation charged separately.
Moving from Dynamics AX: check your version first
Microsoft's lifecycle page lists extended support for Dynamics AX 2012 R3 as ending on 10 January 2023 in its stated Pacific time zone. Other Dynamics products and versions have different support dates.
If you still use AX, confirm what your current support contract covers, including any third-party arrangements. A Microsoft migration proposal can then be compared with other ERP options against the same requirements.
Avoid applying the GP or NAV timetable to AX. Microsoft publishes separate lifecycle information, and it still documents Business Central on-premises as well as online.
What to put side by side
| Area | NetSuite | Dynamics 365 Finance and related apps |
|---|---|---|
| Financial and operational scope | Oracle lists accounting, financial management, inventory, orders, supply chain, procurement and warehouse functions. Confirm the required modules. | Finance and Supply Chain Management are distinct applications. Identify each product, edition and entitlement in the proposal. |
| Group structure | OneWorld provides multi-subsidiary management; it is an add-on to scope explicitly. | Ask for a demonstration using your entities, currencies, consolidation and reporting requirements. |
| User access | Request users and modules by role; include external and integration access questions in the quote. | Check full, limited and device access, applicable base/attach licensing and minimums. |
| Demand planning and forecasting | Ask which planning tools and modules are required for your scenarios. | Microsoft lists Demand Planning within Supply Chain Management Premium. |
| Implementation | Assess every interface and required replacement for existing custom code. | Do not assume existing AX customisations can be retained unchanged. Ask for an assessment and migration scope. |
Assessing NetSuite against your existing Dynamics setup
A group using Dynamics should review which customisations it still needs and which reports depend on separate systems. That gives Invitra a basis for assessing the NetSuite modules and integration work required.
Specialist production, logistics or regulatory requirements need particular attention. Have the staff responsible for those processes test the proposed configuration before you narrow the shortlist.
- Build a month-end and group-reporting demonstration around your actual structure.
- Test production, stock allocation, procurement and returns with realistic exceptions.
- List applications to keep, replace and integrate, including their ongoing support owners.
- For Indian tax workflows, request a configured demonstration and a named localisation scope.
Oracle documents its India localisation SuiteApp and prerequisites, including SuiteTax enablement and setup. Do not assume installation alone proves your configuration is compliant.
What to include in the migration budget
The migration budget should include software, implementation and ongoing services, along with your own staff costs. You may also need to maintain the existing system until the replacement has passed acceptance testing.
- Entitlements: applications, editions, minimum user quantities, capacity and extra environments.
- Migration: cleansing, opening balances, historical records, rehearsals and reconciliation.
- Integration: interfaces, monitoring, error handling and annual maintenance.
- Delivery: testing, training, travel, go-live cover and change requests.
- Contract: currency, GST, renewal pricing, support levels and exit assistance.
Once those costs are included, you can compare the proposals on the same basis. The result will depend on your requirements and contract terms.

Discuss a Dynamics replacement with Invitra
If you have a Dynamics proposal, bring the product names, licence schedule, integrations and implementation exclusions. Invitra can assess the licences, configuration and migration work a NetSuite implementation would require.
Our Pune team also handles training, support and Indian tax and bank-integration requirements. A requirements discussion can take place by video or in person, with any workshop fees and travel agreed beforehand. Meet the team or request a consultation.
Invitra can scope the NetSuite alternative and explain where it meets your requirements and where further work is needed. See Invitra’s implementation services and the people who deliver them.
Questions before you decide
Is Dynamics 365 Finance the same as Business Central?
No. Microsoft's licensing guidance treats them as separate applications, with different plans and entitlements.
Does a Finance licence include all Supply Chain Management functions?
Do not assume that. Microsoft identifies Finance and Supply Chain Management as separately licensed products; qualifying base-and-attach terms may apply.
Is NetSuite automatically cheaper for a mid-sized business?
No. Compare the required modules, users, integrations, delivery work and contract terms over the same period.
Can Invitra help assess an AX replacement?
Invitra can assess the NetSuite option, subject to discovery of your processes, data exports, integrations and project scope. We’ll need the current product and version, together with the processes the replacement must support.
